Seattle Loading Dock Parts and Repair
Seattle is one of the ten busiest port cities in the country, and if you have a shipping business here, you know that well. Goods arrive at the ports of Seattle, Tacoma, and throughout the Puget Sound every day for delivery to points east and south. The Sea-Tac Airport sees thousands of passenger and cargo planes land daily.
For freight handlers, this volume of cargo means a lot of business, but it also puts a strain on your loading docks. Slow-rising dock levelers can bring your supply chain to a grinding halt. A broken leveler means hours or days off-line while you search for new parts or a new leveler. Parts Brite is here to get you those parts right away and keep you moving. Call us at 1-855-PartsBrite to place an order or ask about our services.
Dock Levelers and Maintenance
Your warehouse or shipping port was built at a specific height, probably to local requirements, but the trucks that come to deliver or haul off the goods won’t all be the same height. To avoid damage to loading equipment and make the process faster, you need a dock leveler.
Dock levelers even out the difference between the truck bed and your dock, allowing forklifts and pallet jacks to run smoothly from the dock to the truck bed. This prevents damage to the truck bed and the lift and avoids dropping the cargo prematurely. There are different types of levelers, depending on the volume of traffic and the degree of maintenance you can afford.
Hydraulic levelers are the ideal option for high-traffic, low-maintenance freight operations, where you need maximum durability and have little downtime. Mechanical levelers are the least expensive but tend to require more maintenance, which may be preferable for smaller operations that have the time for repair work. All styles come in full-pit and edge-of-dock size levelers, as needed for your company.
Levelers are sturdy beasts and don’t often break down, as long as they are properly maintained. We keep a full stock of replacement parts for all popular brands of dock levelers, such as McGuire, Pioneer, Pentalift, Nordock, Rite-Hite, Kelley, Serco, Blue Giant, DLM, Poweramp, and Nova. For custom levelers, we will gladly special order parts or locate replacements where available.
If you have a different leveler or one that isn’t on the list, don’t despair. The most frequent cause of leveler breakdown is spring failure. Our Dock Leveler Spring Finder can help find the correct spring for every dock. We keep all sizes brands of springs on hand to repair nearly every leveler. If you need a specialty brand, we can do a custom order and locate the part you need.
Even if the leveler is fine and has a new spring, the dock may still be moving off trim. It could be that the holdown needs to be repaired or replaced. The holdown is a small ratchet that puts pressure on the edge of the leveler to keep it in place. As with any spring-loaded device, the tendency is for the device to resist the pressure and move up or down. The holdown keeps it from drifting.
Although replacement is usually your best option, since the parts themselves are small and difficult to replace, we provide both the parts themselves and a wide range of holdowns for your dock leveling needs.
